Tyninghame Candles is a small business run by Ellie Barbour, specialising in bespoke taper candles. Each candle is carefully dip-dyed by hand, creating unique colour combinations and ensuring no two pieces are ever quite the same.

Mood board and creative direction
Ellie and I were keen to use hand-drawn lettering and illustrations throughout the identity, reflecting the hands-on, handcrafted nature of her candle-making process. As each candle is uniquely dip-dyed and “perfectly imperfect”, we wanted the logo to embrace that same character, feeling organic, expressive and full of personality.
Primary logo, submark and illustrations
The aim was to create a colourful, welcoming logo that reflects the warmth and personality of the brand. The hand-drawn lettering mirrors Ellie’s hands-on candle-making process, while the varied letterforms and imperfect positioning nod to her philosophy that each candle is “perfectly imperfect” and uniquely made.
Colour palette
The bold red and pink palette was inspired by Ellie’s candles, with the warm, almost-orange red chosen as a nod to one of her favourite colours. Together, the colours create a retro-inspired feel while ensuring the brand is vibrant, eye-catching and full of warmth.
